Education History
Ruizhi Zhu holds a Ph.D. in Development Economics from Peking University, an M.A. in International Comparative Education from Stanford University, and a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Peking University.
Career History
Ruizhi Zhu is an Assistant Professor at the School of International Organizations, Beijing Foreign Studies University. Her research and policy work span education equity, sustainable development, digital financial inclusion, gender equality, and the humanitarian–development nexus.
Before joining BFSU, she worked with UNESCO, UNHCR, UNDP, and UN Women across China, East Asia, Rwanda, and New York. She served as a consultant for UNESCO on health education and well-being projects in East Asia, and as an Associate Protection Officer with UNHCR in Rwanda, where she worked on education in emergencies, community protection, refugee youth engagement, child protection, SGBV prevention, and emergency response. She also contributed to UNDP and UN Women initiatives on responsible investment, South–South cooperation, gender equality, and women’s empowerment. Drawing on experience across academia, UN agencies, and policy advocacy, her work bridges evidence-based research and practical development solutions for vulnerable communities.
