BFSU Faculty Member Wang Hongshu Publishes Paper in International Business Review, a Top-Tier International Journal

Recently, a paper co-authored by Dr. Wang Hongshu, a faculty member of the School of International Organizations at Beijing Foreign Studies University, as the first author, was published in the INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS REVIEW, a top-tier journal in the field of international business. The title of this paper is The impact of formal and informal institutional distances on the strategic asset seeking motives of Chinese MNEs. It appears in a journal sponsored by the European International Business Academy. This journal is widely recognized as an authoritative and influential publication in the field, which is indexed in SSCI Q1 and SJR Q1, with an Impact Factor of 8.7 and a CiteScore of 12.3.

The paper explores and identifies the effects of different dimensions of formal and informal institutional distances on foreign direct investment motivated by strategic asset seeking. It reveals that sub-dimensions of formal institutional distance, “government effectiveness” and “rule of law”, as well as sub-dimensions of informal institutional distance, “power distance” and “indulgence versus restraint” exert more nuanced and significant influences on the strategic asset seeking motives of Chinese firms in cross-border mergers and acquisitions. The findings offer a more granular quantitative analysis of the determinants behind the specific motives of emerging market firms in cross-border M&A, extend theoretical explanations for the distinctive behaviors of international enterprises in the process of globalization, and provide valuable insights for policymakers and corporate decision-makers in strategy formulation and management optimization.
