BFSU Faculty and Students Invited to Present Academic Reports at the Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting in Boston

In the summer of 2023, Wang Hongshu, Director of the International Economics Teaching and Research Section at the School of International Organizations, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), along with master’s students Wang Zhijie and Chen Zeyu, were invited to attend the Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting in Boston, a top-tier academic conference in the field of global management, and delivered academic presentations at the conference.

The 83rd AOM Annual Meeting in 2023, themed “Putting the Worker Front and Centre,” brought together over 10,000 management scholars from more than 80 countries. Discussions centered on workplace upheaval, widening income inequality, dynamic rights and responsibilities between employers and employees, and post-pandemic social phenomena. Scholars from prestigious institutions including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Harvard University, Yale University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology participated in the discussions.

At the session titled “Institutions and Leadership in MNEs,” Wang Hongshu and Wang Zhijie presented a paper entitled “Formal versus Informal Institutional Distance Impact on Strategic Assets Seeking Foreign M&A.” The paper aims to explore and identify the effects of different dimensions of formal and informal institutional distances on the foreign direct investment behavior of multinational enterprises motivated by strategic asset seeking. Chen Zeyu participated remotely.

The Academy of Management (AOM), founded in 1936, is one of the oldest and most prestigious academic organizations in the field of management. Its official journals, including the Academy of Management Review and the Academy of Management Journal, are globally recognized as top-tier journals in management studies.
